Since I composed this piece for Ron Stempfel, I wanted to use his first name as inspiration. "Rögnvaldr" is Ron's very original name and comes from Old Norse. As it is a two-letter name, it contains two meanings: "Rögn" (or "Regin") = "The Council" or "The Decision" and "Valdr" = "The Ruler". In addition, I use as the main motif the only three note names G, A and D contained in the name "Rögnvaldr" and its intervals (major second, fourth and fifth). With these rather "cold" and "powerful" meanings of the name, its place of origin (north), the musical guidelines I set and creative freedom, this composition came into being.
